Depot Operative – St Albans

Position Overview: 

We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Depot Operative with a valid forklift truck license for a 12-ton machine to join our team in the rental industry. As a Depot Operative, you will play a crucial role in our daily operations, ensuring the efficient handling and movement of equipment and machinery within our yard. Your proficiency in operating a forklift truck and your keen attention to detail will be essential in maintaining a safe and organised yard environment. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Forklift Operation: Safely and skillfully operate a forklift truck with a 12-ton capacity to handle equipment and machinery within the yard. This includes loading and unloading vehicles and plant, organising inventory, and moving equipment to designated areas. 

2. Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of the forklift truck and other equipment used in the yard. Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions promptly to the appropriate supervisor to ensure timely maintenance and repairs. 

3. Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records by updating and monitoring stock levels regularly. Collaborate with the warehouse team to ensure seamless tracking of equipment movements. 

4. Yard Organisation: Keep the yard area clean, tidy, and well-organised to ensure easy access to equipment and minimize potential hazards. Maintain clear walkways and traffic routes within the yard. 

5. Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all safety guidelines and regulations while operating the forklift and handling equipment. Conduct daily safety checks on the forklift and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. 

6. Customer Service: Support and assist customers and colleagues in a courteous and professional manner. Respond to inquiries and provide guidance related to equipment selection and yard operations. 

7. Equipment Loading and Unloading: Efficiently load and unload equipment on and off transport vehicles, ensuring secure fastening to prevent damage during transit. 

8. Collaborative Teamwork: Work closely with the warehouse and logistics teams to fulfill orders and ensure a smooth workflow. Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate yard activities. 

 

Key Skills and Qualifications: 

- Valid forklift truck license is essential. 

- Excellent understanding of safety regulations and guidelines related to forklift operation. 

- Attention to detail and organisational skills to maintain an orderly yard and precise inventory records. 

- Good communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with colleagues and serve

Ability to commute/relocate:
