Temporary power for construction site welfare, with 90% lower fuel cost

The challenge: cutting diesel dependence behind site welfare

A modular welfare setup of 32 cabins was running on diesel. The customer wanted a more sustainable, environmentally sympathetic and cost-effective solution to off-grid power, with the main objective of significantly reducing GHG emissions and noise pollution without impacting on-site efficiency.

The solution: SiteGrid X200 Industrial BESS with a backup generator

Think Hire, a division of Think Energy Group, deployed a SiteGrid X200 Industrial battery energy storage system (BESS) to power all 32 cabins. The battery carries the day-to-day load and the backup generator is there when it's needed. Think Hire monitors and manages the unit remotely through Think Energy Panorama and reports all stats including fuel, runtime and carbon to the customer.

The results: one month of hybrid running.

The unit used about 1,000 litres of fuel in the month, a 90% reduction in fuel cost and about 8,000 litres of fuel saved. The generator ran for just 7% of the month. Less generator runtime means less noise, a 93% reduction in noise pollution on site. Operating cost, including hire and fuel, fell by 31%, and 2 tonnes of CO2 were avoided.
