Mobile Site Engineer (generator biased) – Scotland Region 

Position Overview: 

We are currently seeking a dedicated and highly motivated qualified Generator Engineer with a good all round understanding of basic electrics, plumbing, site installation, servicing, maintenance, and repair of diesel generators, preferably with a background with hybrid systems/ Solar PV, alternatively an individual with a background in engineering/electrical works with a capacity to devote themselves to learning our systems quickly. You will be required to attend sites between 8am-5pm, with the possibility of working beyond standard hours as needed. A full UK driving license is also critical for the role. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Install, maintain, and repair diesel generators. 

  • Respond to breakdowns, providing effective and timely solutions. 

  • Conduct routine servicing and inspections according to maintenance schedules. 

  • Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical, electrical, and control panel repairs. 

  • Commission new equipment and perform load testing and performance checks. 

  • Maintain accurate service records and complete job sheets and documentation. 

  • Ability to read and understand Method Statements, Risk assessments, Lift Plans & Site drawings. 

  • Full site installations to include: 

  • Establish power connections with the use of fly leads ranging from 16amp, 32amp and 63amp. (plug and play). Power is established from a range of hybrid Think Hire products. 

  • Disconnections of the above. (Site demobilisation) 

  • Assisting in location of welfare and accommodation with the use of a crane. (CPCS Slinger Signaler desirable or experience in lifting operations). 

  • Ability to install various site welfare in various configurations. 

  • Establish water connections on site either from mains water or external water source. 

  • Represent yourself & Think Hire Ltd to a very high standard at all times. 

  • Ability to build and maintain customer relationships. 

 

Technical Knowledge 

  • Proven experience as a generator engineer or in a similar mechanical/electrical role. 

  • Fault diagnosis on systems/ generators. 

  • Understanding of the components used within our hybrid systems – Solar PV, Battery, Wind turbine 

  • Programming settings on new and existing hybrid systems. 

  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, alternators, and control systems. 

  • Experience with both single-phase and three-phase systems. 

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics. 

  • Remote monitoring of systems. 

  • Remote refinement of settings when new systems are installed on site. 

  • Excellent communication and time management skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Flexibility to work overtime as required.
