Making Hybrid Generators Even More Eco-Friendly

Date: 28/05/25

Think Hire’s Solartainer portable hybrid generators are already ground-breaking, leading the industry in providing cleaner, greener power for construction sites, road and rail repairs and much more. Harnessing the power of the sun, they reduce greenhouse gas emissions like CO2 and NOx, as well as cutting the noise pollution associated with traditional diesel generators.

The Solartainer Versatile hybrid generator was a significant step forward in helping companies achieve Net Zero, but at Think Hire, we knew we could do even better.

An environmentally friendly hybrid generator

The original Solartainer Versatile is emission free during daylight hours and stores any excess power in its high-quality Lithium-Ion batteries for later use. The diesel generator only kicks in when this battery becomes depleted, minimising fuel use. The new Glycerine Solartainer goes a step further, by eliminating the need for polluting diesel completely.

You still get all the power you need, whenever you need it, but now with significantly lower emissions. This makes the Glycerine Solartainer hybrid generators more flexible, more versatile and even more environmentally responsible.

A breath of fresh air

Burning glycerine instead of diesel in your hybrid generator produces up to 100 times less emissions that the current Stage V limits. That means your team, and any neighbours near your site, can enjoy much improved air quality.

On a practical level, it also means that you can use this generator even inside Ultra Low Emission Zones, such as city centres, where traditional diesel generators, or even hybrid generators, can be a costly problem for construction sites.

What is glycerine?

Technically, glycerine is a commercial preparation of glycerol which is around 95% pure. It is non-toxic and non-flammable, making it very safe to store and use on site.

Glycerol is a colourless, odourless, sweet tasting liquid, which is typically made from soybeans or palm oil, although it can also be made from animal fats. You may have heard of it as an artificial sweetener, or something your Nan used when she was making royal icing to cover her Christmas cake back in the day.

'Incredible potential'

Think Hire are not the only ones to see the potential of glycerol to power generators. The Formula E electric motor racing series uses glycerol to power the generators that charge all of the cars on the circuit.

Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, has been very impressed so far, commenting that: “Glycerine’s potential as a clean, efficient fuel source is incredible.”

Take your hybrid generators to the next level

Think Hire has vast experience of helping companies to make the transition to cleaner greener power by switching to hybrid generator hire, and we offer exactly the same high level of service for our new glycerine customers too.

To support your switch to glycerine, Think Hire are able to supply all the fuel tanks you need, including static fuel tanks and mobile fuel bowsers, plus, of course, the glycerine fuel to go in them. We can also provide a full suite of connections, including EMS distribution boards and high quality plugs and leads

All of our hires also come with state of the art energy management as standard, to help you get the best from your hybrid generator system and show you how to implement best practice to cut fuel costs and emissions even further.
