New Report Predicts Catastrophic Global Temperature Rise

Date: 18/05/23

The days when global warming and climate change were a matter of opinion and hotly debated are sadly long gone. Climate change is no longer just a theory, it is a fact, and a report released this week shows that it is happening a lot faster than scientists hoped.

The latest data

When it comes to climate data, few sources are more respected than the World Meteorological Office (WMO). They gather climate information from all over the world to predict the speed and level of climate change. Frighteningly, their Global Annual to Decadal Climate Update, which was released this week, provides a stark warning to us all. Climate change is very real and it is happening right now, right across the world.

Worrying predictions

The report included some eye-opening predictions, including estimates that:

  • Mean global surface temperatures will be 1.1°C to 1.8°C higher than pre-industrial levels every year between now and 2027.
  • The chances of at least one of those years being 1.5°C higher are 66%
  • The chances of one of those years being the hottest on record are 98%
  • The chances of the five-year average being higher than 2018-2022 are also 98%

What’s so special about 1.5°C

A global rise of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900) is the benchmark set by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC). Beyond this, the world will experience ‘rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society’.

As recently as 2018, it was predicted that without radical action, this level would be reached by 2030. This week’s report now predicts that this is likely to happen much sooner than that.

What can I do?

In the face of a global climate catastrophe, it’s easy to think that nothing one person, or one company, can do will make any difference. However, this is simply not true. We all have a role to play in fighting climate change, and every change you can make, however small, contributes to the wider effort to turn the tide.

Here at Think Hire, we have a huge range of ways to support your business in making those changes. Hire a solar power generator and you can bring renewable power online for all aspects of your site. This not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions, but also cuts your operating costs too.

Solar power generators for construction

By linking a solar power generator to your power system, you can enjoy clean, renewable energy right across your site. This includes site lighting, site offices and welfare units, power for tools and equipment and even solar power for electric vehicles and plant.

Each element will make a difference on its own, and if you bring them together in a co-ordinated plan, backed by Think Hire’s industry leading remote energy management systems, those benefits will multiply fast. In fact, if you make Think Hire your renewable energy partner, we guarantee to cut both your on-site CO2 emissions and your operating costs.  That means that going green and playing your part in the climate battle won’t cost your company a penny. You can help to save the planet and save money all at the same time.

It’s not too late

Despite the grim analysis of the WMO, it is not too late to prevent lasting climate change, but we must act now. "This is not about remote science; it is about how we live and work,” says Dr Debra Roberts, co-chair of the IPCC. “Everyone is going to have to be involved."
