Solar Powered Generators Could Cool the Impact of the Sun

Date: 30/06/25

As temperatures rise once again across the UK, many people will be celebrating the warmer temperatures. For most, heatwaves mean barbecues, trips to the beach and perhaps one or two uncomfortable nights. But they are not always so much fun for everyone.

When the UK first hit 40°C in 2022, with a temperature of 40.3°C recorded in Lincolnshire, it is estimated that there were more than 1,000 excess deaths. Over that long hot summer, that number rose to over 3,000 heat-related deaths, as the elderly and infirm struggled to cope with the heat.

Much more to come

With these figures in mind, a new report from the Met Office, titled: ‘Rapidly Increasing Chance of Record UK Summer Temperatures’, is extremely worrying. The report, published in the journal Weather in June 2025, uses advanced computer modelling to estimate the risks of record temperatures – and it reaches some troubling conclusions.

The study estimates that the chance of exceeding 40°C again in the next twelve years is 50/50. That risk is three times higher than it was in 2000 and a massive twenty times higher than it was in 1960. This not only puts many more lives at risk, but it could fundamentally change the way we live and even how we farm.

Some farmers in Berkshire have already switched to growing grapes in response to the changing climate. They have always shared the same soil type as the Champagne region, and now they’re starting to share the same sunny climate too.

It’s not too late to change

Rising temperatures in the UK are just one of the many signs of climate change around the world. Elsewhere, wildfires are spreading unchecked in Canada and whole cities are slowly sinking as sea levels rise.

It may sound like a complete environmental disaster, but it is never too late to take action to address the issue and slow down these changes. With Think Hire solar powered generators, you can actually use the energy of the sun to avoid some of the problems that too much sunshine can cause.

Our industry leading solar powered generators include the very latest technology, making them highly efficient at generating and storing renewable energy. By using solar powered generators, you can significantly reduce your greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to global warming and weather extremes. Better still, you can reduce your operating costs at the same time, because hybrid solar powered generators require significantly less fossil fuels than a standard diesel generator.

Like for like replacement

Many people assume that switching to solar powered generators will inevitably mean compromising on power and performance in some way, but this is far from the case. Think Hire Solartainer Versatile solar powered generators are a like for like replacement for diesel generators up to 100kVA. That means there is no reduction in power or performance when you reduce your emissions in this way. Available in single or three-phase configuration, these solar powered generators can be linked together to meet even the most demanding power needs.

Hybrid design also means you can count on your solar powered generators night and day, whatever the weather. Each one contains an integral diesel generator, which kicks in automatically when the battery storage reaches a minimum level. Alternative fuel options are also available, including HVO, LPG and even glycerine.

Long hot summers may sound like a nice idea, but we need to do all that we can to avoid dangerous temperature rises in the future. To find out how your company can play its part, by switching to solar powered generators for your portable power, get in touch with Think Hire today.
